Wallkill Panthers Baseball

A look at this year’s team:

The 2014 Panthers are looking to continue their success from a 14-7 season that included a 10 -1 win in the first round of sectional play against Goshen and ended with a heartbreaking loss to Cornwall 4-3 in the semi-finals. The Panthers will have many returning players this year, but will also have some young new talent. Pitching and Offense will be looked upon to be the strength for the Panthers. Senior right-hander Joe Pillitteri (2-2, 3.12 ERA, 53 K) will look to lead the Panthers on the mound. Also returning and in line for starting roles will be Senior Dylan Notaro (2-0, 1.38 ERA) and Junior Steve Moskwa. Rounding out the staff will be Seniors Nick Pacifico, Chris Ripa, Jeremy Franz, and Sean Puleo, Juniors Josh Begany and Ed Doering, Sophomore Corby Scheibling, and Freshman Justin Dunikowski.

Defensively, the Panthers will have plenty of talent in the outfield. Senior Puleo will be in center, supported by Seniors Pacifico and Notaro.  Seniors Zach Giaimo, Ripa, and Franz, Junior Doering, and Freshman Dunikowski can contribute anywhere in the outfield. In the infield, Junior Nick Gomez and Senior Mike Conover will work the middle. Moskwa will work the hot corner, with Pillitteri and Junior Riley O’Donnell seeing time at first. Utility men Sophomore Scheibling and Junior Mark Iorlano can contribute anywhere in the field. Senior Eddie O’Donnell and Junior Connor Rhoades will be behind the plate, anchoring the pitching staff.

Offensively, the Panthers, who outscored their opponents 171 – 88 in 2013, will look to utilize their experience at the top of the order with Notaro (.413, 14 RBI, 19 R) and Puleo (.353, 10 SB, 17 R) leading things off. 1st Team Daily Freeman All-Star Moskwa (.393, 21 RBI, 15 R), Gomez (.400, 2HR, 17 RBI, 21 R), and Conover (.300, 14 R) will follow in the middle of the order. Pillitteri (.320), Pacifico (.300), Ed O’Donnell (.370), and the rest of the Panthers will be looked on to help the offense stay aggressive and keep the pressure on the defense.

The Panthers start their regular season at Goshen on April 1st. Please visit our website at http://wallkillbaseball.stackvarsity.com/ for full team rosters (modified, JV, and Varsity) and to view our 2014 schedule. Come out this year and support your 2014 Wallkill Panthers!
